I've owned the XD sub-compact in 9mm, Service in .40 and Tactical in .45ACP for a number of years. They are terrific guns with somewhat sloppy triggers, I had a target trigger job put on my Tactical (range shooting only) and a carry trigger put on my Service (home defense and instruction) and nothing on [...]

Both guns are striker fired, and use polymer frames, so comparison should be easy. Both lines are offered in the popular pistol calibers of 9×19, .40, and .45 so you can get the one you want without compromising.

The industry press awarded the XD-45 the title of Handgun of the Year from both American Rifleman [...]

  • I’ve owned the XD sub-compact in 9mm, Service in .40 and Tactical in .45ACP for a number of years. They are terrific guns with somewhat sloppy triggers, I had a target trigger job put on my Tactical (range shooting only) and a carry trigger put on my Service (home defense and instruction) and nothing on my 9mm (daily carry).

The newer XDMs have much better triggers out of the box.
I can highly recommend these guns for accuracy, fit, reliability.

  • Same here, I have to use extended mags to hold my Thunder 380 and my Tomcat. Thanks for the info. I have a friend who wanted to know about the Ruger SR9, which I knew all about, and the XD, of which I knew very little. Since you have a fan club for XDs, I figured this was the best place to ask. Thanks again.

  • I would say the XD’s recoil isn’t too bad, all things considered. For example, I would say my XD40 tactical (5”) is no worse than an 1911. My XD40 subcompact (3”) has a bit more recoil, but I find it to be much more controllable than a Glock 23. On the subcompact, I find that using the full size magazine, which extends the grip by another inch or so, makes the pistol much easier to handle. But then again, I have large hands and can’t get my pinkie on the grip of the subcompact unless I use the full size mag.

  • Hey XD shooters, is the XD difficult to control, seeing as it is a polymer pistol? I’d like to know about the 3inch concealed carry version as well as the full frame. The only poly-framed gun I ever owned was a Walther P22 because I figured a .22LR would have negligible kick anyway. So, I’d like to hear about some poly-framed guns in a combat caliber. Thanks!

  • Yeah, I would say the tactical is a bit big to carry. the subcompact is very concealable, and even the 4” service can be concealed pretty well.
